Priscilla’s Five P’s

Love me some Priscilla Shirer. That girl can get her preach on and when she does, I want to jump up from my seat, wave my white hanky in the air and shout, “Lawd, Lawd!” When I heard her speak a few months ago, she gave us some encouraging words but also some practical ideas to help strengthen our time in God’s Word. She said that this can be applied to any passage of scripture that we are currently studying. Here are Priscilla’s 5 P’s: 1. Position yourself to hear from God.
  • Silence, solitude, morning, evening…when and where is your place?
2. Pore over the passage and paraphrase the major points.
  • Dive into it. Read it over and over again.
3. Pull out the spiritual principles.
  • Find what you can learn and apply to your life.
4. Pose the questions.
  • Ask yourself a question about the spiritual principle.
5. Plan obedience and pin down a date.
  • Don’t just make a decision in your head. Get it down. Be accountable to someone.
I pray that God’s Word will come alive to you as you continue to study it. As Priscilla says, “The novelty of God’s Word ought not to wear off.”

  1. God has used Priscilla to speak to me, convict me, teach me & encourage me in my walk with Him. My 25 year old daughter & I have taken a couple of her studies (Esther & One in a Million) with our ladies group at church. She is one of our favorites and we are blessed to have the opportunity to sit under her leading!! She ALWAYS points us to Jesus!! Thanks Cindy for sharing the 5 P’s of studying God’s Word!! You are also a blessing!! Thanks for allowing God to use your gifts & abilities for His glory!!
