We Bealls are headed down to the Lone Star State for a week with family. There are so many things that we look forward to during this week. Our boys lu-huv their grandparents. They can’t get enough of riding their Grandpa’s John Deere tractor. Now that’s fun. Redneck fun. Their Grandma showers them with kisses and hugs and pretty much gives them whatever their little hearts desire. On Thanksgiving day Noah and Seth get to run around their Aunt Missy and Uncle John’s land with all their cousins. And they both zonk out in the car on the 3-hour drive back to Georgetown. Peace and quiet 🙂
My mother, whom they affectionately call Nina, takes them to a movie. This year it’s the Bee Movie.
What does that mean for us while the children are busy with grandparents? We get to go to IKEA
! Have you seen that place? Very cool. But, don’t expect to get in and out in 30 minutes. Ask Marcy and Keri. It won’t happen. It’s like 400,000 square miles big.
Some of our other faves about heading home is eating some excellent Tex-Mex, including breakfast tacos at Taco Cabana
. We also frequent the “Worst BBQ in Texas”…aka Rudy’s
. Love that place. And if our blessed Texas Longhorns play well on the day after Thanksgiving against their fierce rivals, the Aggies of Texas A&M, then we drive into Austin to see the tower all lit up burnt orange.
It’s a beautiful sight. (Not a word, Sooner fans. Not one single word.)
This year we will also take the boys to Zilker Park to see the big Christmas tree.
Did I mention that my mother and I are two of the crazy people who actually get up early for the Day After Thanksgiving
sales? I know. Don’t say it. We’re lunatics. But, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
I hope all of you make some great memories wherever you are this Thanksgiving. Talk to you when I return.
