Lessons From Proverbs – #4

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:30
Yowza. Convicted a little?  I kinda am. We’ve all been there when we looked at the life of another and wished it was ours.  Ah, come on.  Yes you have.  When you have a screaming 18-month old and you see a woman with a calm 8-year old child, you want to be her.  And it’s understandable.  We know we should relish every moment and make the most of our todays, but sometimes our todays are just not fun, are they? How do you keep your heart at peace so that it gives life to your body and doesn’t rot your bones? Thoughts?

  1. Good question Cindy. For the 1st three yrs of my daughter’s life I had post-partum depression that nobody recognized until one day I hit my daughter for no reason and I freaked out. I decided it was time to get help. I did and I’m glad for it. As far as being envious… I might’ve for a second. I’ve never really been the envious type. Call me a liar if you like. Maybe I’m a rare case. God knows my heart and I believe He’s gotten be through all this. The issues I went through were far more severe than being envious.

  2. Honestly, it is a battle some days. Counting my blessings, usually helps. Such as, I have a home, some don’t, I have a job, some don’t, I have a vehicle, some don’t, I have health insurance and a great doctor, some don’t, etc.

We never really know what is going on in someone else’s life, unless they share it with us. Many people hide their problems and put on a good front. You know the saying “Can’t judge a book by its cover”

  3. I can be such a jealous person and no one would even know it :-\

What helps me keep things in perspective (i.e. Christ-glorifying) is to remember to rejoice and be thankful for what God is doing in others’ lives. Why shouldn’t I be happy for others and what God is doing in them, through them and for them?

  4. I sure did need to hear this!!!! Thanks! I do try hard, but sometimes The envy wins. I am not happy with how my week has gone, but I am going to try my hardest to make it better from here on out, because I just realized I haven’t been counting my blessings enough!

  5. I like to surround myself with likeminded women who are willing to share my burden and to let me share theirs. Ladies lifegroup is a great place to find women to share the good times and bad with…and find a free babysitter when you need one or to take a meal to when they need one.
