Fave Song – Then

I love country music. Well, most of it. It’s in my bones.  Heck, it’s in my marrow.  I was born and raised listening to Charlie Pride, George Jones and eventually, George Strait. But in the last decade, I’ve become awfully fond of one Mr. Brad Paisley.  I do think he’s quite talented on the GIH-tar. From his American Saturday Night album, the song “Then” just gets me every single time.  The chorus goes a little somethin’ like this:
And now you’re my whole life now you’re my whole world I just can’t believe the way I feel about you, girl Like a river meets the sea, stronger than it’s ever been. We’ve come so far since that day And I thought I loved you then
Of course, you can imagine that I am thinking of one @chrisdbeall when I hear this.  Those first fleeting moments of staring into his gorgeous, green eyes about made me sick to my stomach. Wait, it did make me sick to my stomach. And clearly, I was feeling something strong for that skinny boy back in 1992.  But now? Now, after all we’ve been through…the good, the bad, the ugly, the vacations, the childbirths, the betrayals, the celebrations, the memories, the holidays, the times helping others, the hours on the back porch.  Had no idea how much I would love him now when we were on our first date that Sunday afternoon in March well over 17 years ago. And I thought I loved him then.

  1. Wow. If it’s true that a Godly wife can bring the best out of her husband then I will be a spiritual superhero. I love you too, shug

  2. This is an awesome testimony to couples like Joanne and I. Knowing your story gives me faith and hope that we can weather storms and still be deeply in love. Thank you for being committed to your marriage and being an example to us. Blessings in 2010 and of course hook em’ horns 🙂

  3. Well said, Cindy. After 45 years I’m blessed to say with you and Brad, “And I thought I loved him then.” Also a timely reminder when a few minutes ago I wasn’t all that delighted with my “prince”…putting up &/or taking down Christmas decorations never brings out the best in either of us!

  4. Country music REALLY can touch the heart of the matter. My wedding song is “I Cross my Heart” and “Then” is so pretty. For my homeroom I gave them a copy of Kenny Chesney’s “just not today.” it is awesome for teens& tweens. It is how moms often feel. Makes me cry. Love to you C-mo. Hook em!

  5. I love Brad Paisley & especially loved that song. It was in the running for our first dance, but instead we ended up using Jadon Lavik’s “This Day.”

My husband and I have only been married 3 months, but even when I look back to the early days of our relationship, I’m amazed at how much we’ve grown together as we learn about ourselves & one another.

Thanks for letting your marriage be an example of God’s covenant-keeping power. It is awesome and I’m blessed to know that you mentor younger women – young marrieds need that kind of lifeline!

Blessings to you, Chris & your boys in 2010.
