10K Training Update – Week 2

I thought I would let you know that I am in training right now to run my first 10K. Redbud (That is 6.2 miles, friends.) The race is on Sunday afternoon, April 10th. I am finishing up week 2 of my training, which is about 8 weeks long. It is going rather well. I stretch and strengthen on Sundays. Run on Mondays, Wednesdays and┬áSaturdays. Walk (fast) on Tuesdays and Fridays. And rest on Thursdays. Am I sore? Yes. Do I take a bunch of Advil? Yesireebob. Am I tired? Uh-huh. Am I feeling it in my joints? You betcher bottom dollar. I’m 40, people. But at the same time, I am enjoying it. I get a thrill, a rush when I push myself on my weekly runs and beat my average mile pace. It’s pretty awesome to see yourself doing something that you never thought you could. And running a 10K at the age of 25, let alone 40 is something I never dreamed I would be able to do. But I’m doing it. Anyone else out there training for an upcoming race?

  5. Great job! You chose a great race for your first 10K. They run this so well, have plenty of water stations, and tons of food afterwards čÖé I’ll see you there, it’s always a great run!

  6. I have started training for OKC half marathon. I think I will look into the Red Bud Classic. That is about a month before the half marathon. I am still struggling to be consistent with my training schedule, but hopefully I will get there!
