New Year. New Day.

Lam 3-23

The year of 2016 has arrived. A new beginning. A fresh start. A brand-new opportunity.

While most everyone I talk to gets excited about a new year, the excitement wanes rather quickly when the first resolution fails. We get so down on ourselves and literally say, “Well, there goes this year.”

But why? Why do we throw away an entire year of good intentions and pure motives one day when we could start over the very next?

Scripture says that God’s faithfulness is great and that his mercies are new every morning. My friend, they are new every, stinkin’ morning. Why not take advantage of those new mercies every day? Why only use them once a year on January 1st?

God knows you will make mistakes. God knows you will set goals and not always reach them. God knows that you will resolve to do something consistently that you won’t follow through on. God knows. And that is exactly why He has provided His Word to give you hope and comfort.

Enjoy the beginning of this new year. There is something so sweet and pure about a fresh start. But don’t let this be the only fresh start you take. If you find yourself not doing what you wished or planned to do at any given point in this year, start over the next day. Because His mercies, well, they are just waiting for you to grab them.¬†

  1. Happy New Year to you and your family. In October of last year I decided not to wait until New years to lose 30 lbs. So far I have lost 23 lbs and have 7 more to go to reach my goal. I came into my new year with sobriety which is the greatest gift ever. I wanted to bring in my new year a different women. I plan to write my memoirs this year and get them completed.
